Hi Nate, thanks and nice blog. I was fishing an 8 weight rod, though I hope to pick up a 7 weight this year for Steelhead.

Cheers,

Hey, I really liked this post. If you don't mind a question, what weight was your rod?

Thanks, and if you get a chance, check out my fishing blog too.

In reply to <a href="https://www.ontarioflyfisher.com/steelhead-abound/#comment-107">Simon Chapman</a>.

Thanks for the comment Simon. Sounds like you found some nice peaceful steelheading this year! There’s little as rewarding as putting in a bit of effort to discover new water like this. The hatches are pretty far behind this year. I’ve seen a couple thick bwo hatches but no hennies yet. With all the warm weather ahead, they should to be imminent (if not here already).

Great blog! If you spend some time on google earth you can discover some remote access points on rivers, hike in, and fine good fishing without crowds. After being dismayed by 100+ cars on the Ganny for steelhead opener, I discovered new stretch on another river within 1 hr of GTA, and hooked many steelies this spring in pristine surroundings. Would agree with your views on chinook, but stick with steelies outside of resident season.. Went to credit today for residents and hit a few on streamers, but was hoping for some hendrickson action which didn't happen for me..

Cheers,
