Hi Liam, thanks for the kind words. The short trout season here is definitely a bummer. It seems if it's not about opening up more hatcheries and replacing wild fish with stocked ones, the MNR isn't interested. Even the upper Grand River in Fergus and Elora, which is almost 100% stocked with an extremely high winter mortality rate and very little natural reproduction has had strong opposition to having an extended season. It makes little sense.

Excellent job on your blog by the way. It's great to see someone as young as yourself so passionate about fly fishing and the outdoors. You're lucky to be surrounded by family who also enjoy it.

Cheers,

Beautiful shots and well written blog! I've been going through and looking at your various brook trout posts and they're all very entertaining and informative. I totally agree with your statement about the extremely short trout season. It is absolutely ridiculous to leave anglers with less than half of the year to fish for inland trout and as you said greatly reducing sales for businesses. It seems like Southern Ontario is one of the last areas to cut trout season so short, for example Wisconsin has done an early (January 1st) catch and release trout season opener for the past couple of years with great success. Even areas just an hour north of where I live in Lindsay have year round brown and rainbow trout seasons with an early brook trout opener on January 1st. How come southern ontario fly fishers are stuck with such a short season, when catch and release and other special regulations are popular among many anglers anyways. A little bit of a rant there but I think a proposal to the MNR is due. Great content on your site though, I hope to see more!
